XVWeb Update Release: Thursday 25 June 2020

This release is focused on performance improvements and a few bug fixes.

Important Notes for the Upcoming Year

XVWeb will no longer support IE11 by the end of 2020.

• Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome are recommended instead.

Advanced Edit is going away at the end of October 2020.

• We have included some new tools to replace the functionality in the omnibus Advanced Edit

New Features

Release Notes

• The in-product release notes are now articles on web pages. These pages are dynamic and can have animated images and videos. This change replaces the previously linked static PDFs. Users who still need to download PDFs are encouraged to use the print function in any browser to save the pages as PDFs.

Fixes

Editing DICOM Metadata

• FIXED: Editing the reading or referring doctor fields no longer causes the page to freeze. (#1395)
• Some customers had trouble reading the dates. This should fix any font coloring issues. (#1419)

Image Enhancement

• Effect Gamma Correction
  FIXED a divide by zero error that would prevent an image from displaying
  • Min ~ 0 (epsilon, or the positive computer number closest to zero)
  • Max = 6
  • Precision = 2 decimal places (#1360)
• Effect Sharpen
  FIXED an error that would display an image to random pixels
  • Radius: odd numbers >= 1
    (Keep this number as small as possible)
  • Amount: 0-100
    • 0 is no change
    • 1 is the least amount of sharpening
    • 100 is the most amount of sharpening
• Spot Enhancement
  FIXED an issue where the strength reduction button, ‘-’, would incorrectly reduce the size.

Other Fixes

• Various performance and error handling improvements.
  These fixes should help resolve conditions that would prevent some customers from being able to access the site during periods of high activity.

Known Issues

Enhancements | Effects

• When adding the SHARPEN effect the radius and amount appear to default to 0. If these numbers are not actually touched and changed, the effect will create a broken image when applied. Adjust the numbers and save to avoid this issue.

• When adding the GAMMA_CORRECTION effect the gamma amount appears to default to 0. If this number is not actually touched and changed, the effect will create a broken image when the enhancement is applied. Adjust this number and save to avoid this issue.

Layouts

• Text tiles added to layouts appear in the viewer but don’t print

Internet Explorer 11

• Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) End of Support from Apteryx in 2020
  We are finding IE11 to be a big liability for continued support. Microsoft has released new and robust versions of Edge, a browser build like Chrome, that can handle XVWeb very well. Edge works on Windows 7, 8, and 10. We constantly test against Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, but we only check that very basic features (such as searching, displaying 2D images, and exporting) work in IE11. We strongly recommend all customers to stop using IE11 for XVWeb, and move to a modern, supported browser.
